All ministers, volunteers and faithful of the Diocese of Camden are invited to attend two upcoming pre-Lenten evenings of reflection and fellowship at Marmora’s Saint Maximilian Kolbe Parish.
The programs, focused on “Why We Do What We Do As Catholics,” will take place Feb. 1 and 8. Sponsored by the parish’s Life and Justice Committee, in conjunction with the diocese’s Office of Life and Justice Ministries, both days will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Immaculata Hall.
On Feb. 1, Dr. Michael Sims, diocesan director of the Office of Life and Justice Ministries, will lead a discussion on the four pillars and faith anchors of Catholic identity: Scripture, Tradition, Reason and Experience.
As well, Deacon Bill Slaven, from Saint Rose of Lima Parish, Haddon Heights, and chair of the Board for Joseph’s House in Camden will share stories of his faith journey to the diaconate and ministry to the vulnerable and marginalized. Joseph’s House is a shelter that also helps those who are homeless find stability and dignity.
The next week, Feb. 8, Dr. Sims will speak on Bishop Robert Barron’s “Loop of Grace” from the Word on Fire ministry. Part of the discussion will be how “in the love that we share, in using the gifts God gave us, we, in turn, discover God’s love for us and humanity,” Dr. Sims said.
On this evening, he added, “Participants will also have the opportunity to take a spiritual inventory of their own gifts to see where grace abounds, and share their own transformative experiences of grace.”
Each evening will conclude with conversation, fellowship and hospitality. Both sessions, Dr. Sims promises, “will engage souls and enliven spirits.”
