Paul VI High School, Haddon Township, collected and donated $7,489.29 to Operation Rice Bowl. This is an annual competition among the religion classes at Paul VI.

The Office of Black Catholic Ministries, Diocese of Camden, is organizing a drive for Gloucester County Special Services School District, Migrant Education Programs. Often the children miss portions of the school year while their families follow the harvesting of various crops; the purpose of our summer programming is to address these educational gaps. Some of the items that are needed for the summer programs include bathing suits and towels, gently used books for students of all ages, small, lightweight blankets (for preschoolers’ naptimes) and toiletries, especially toothbrushes and toothpaste. For information call 856-583-6184.

A Camden County summit on “the opiate and heroin crisis in our community” will be held May 19, 5:30-9 p.m. at the Collingswood Grand Ballroom, White Horse Pike and Harrison Avenue, Collingswood. The event is hosted by Camden County Board of Freeholders, Health Department and Prosecutor’s Office. The keynote speaker will be Tony Hoffman, a top-ranked BMX racer who ended up in prison because of substance abuse. In recovery since 2007, he re-entered pro BMX, competing nationally and at the Olympic level. Register to attend at camdencounty.com or call 856-216-2119.
