
Sister Johanna Rado, MPF, 91, former pastoral assistant and superior at Saint Peter’s Church in Merchantville, died Aug. 8 in Saint Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown.
Raised in New Brunswick, N.J., she entered the Religious Teachers Filippini on Feb. 2, 1944. She received the religious habit on Aug. 27, 1944, and made her final religious profession on Aug. 31, 1947.
She taught in elementary schools in the Archdioceses of Newark and New York, and the Dioceses of Camden, Paterson and Hartford (Connecticut). Sister Johanna also served as principal at schools in Pequannock and Clifton.
From 1997-99, she ministered as pastoral assistant and superior at Saint Peter’s in Merchantville.
“Her dedication to Catholic education and her achievement of excellence in these positions is the gift she leaves behind,” her religious community said in a statement.
Sister Johanna is survived by her sister, Sister Helen Rado, MPF; brother Daniel (Irene) Rado of West Milford, N.J.; sister Marie (John) Miller of Milltown, N.J.; sister-in-law Arlene Rado of Hamilton, N.J.; and many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 11 at Villa Walsh’s Saint Lucy Chapel. Interment followed at Ave Maria Cemetery.
