Felician Sister Rita Marie, former principal at Saint Joseph High School in Camden, died in Lodi, N.J., on April 28, at the age of 86. She had been a Felician Sister for 68 years.
The former Rita Theresa Aponik, Sister Rita Marie was born in Philadelphia in 1934. She entered the postulancy of the Felician Sisters in Lodi in 1952, received the Felician habit in 1953, professed her first vows in 1954 and final vows in 1960.
She spent most of her religious life in the educational ministry, serving at elementary and high schools in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
In the Diocese of Camden, she served at Saint Joseph High School in Camden as vice principal from 1970-77, and principal from 1977 until the school’s closing in 1979.
Private funeral services were to be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Chapel in Lodi, and she was to be laid to rest in the Felician Sisters’ Cemetery.
