The Catholic Home Missions Appeal will be collected across the United States the weekend of April 26-27. Last year, the Diocese of Camden collected $80,854 for this campaign.
According to the U.S. bishops, this appeal will support more than 70 “home mission dioceses” in the United States and its territories. More than one-third (35%) of the total number of dioceses in the United States are considered “home mission dioceses,” which are often in rural areas with small Catholic populations, or communities that otherwise struggle economically.
The U.S. bishops’ Catholic Home Missions program helps these areas provide basic pastoral services such as Mass, the sacraments, religious education and ministry training for priests, deacons and lay people. “Right here in the United States, we have dioceses that need help providing pastoral care,” said Bishop Chad W. Zielinski, chairman of the U.S. bishops’ Subcommittee on Catholic Home Missions.
