For the first time since 2019, VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services, in cooperation with Holy Trinity Parish in Margate, will host “The Way of Saint James: On the Road of Life,” an intergenerational pilgrimage walk and day of fellowship.
The event will be held 9 a.m.-1 p.m. April 30; check-in begins at 8 a.m. at Ventnor’s Saint James Church, a parish worship site. The day includes a 2.5-mile walk on the boardwalk, Mass, lunch and more. The walk begins after morning prayer at the church.
The event takes its inspiration from the Camino de Santiago, the European pilgrimage route that winds primary through France and Spain before concluding at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the reputed burial site of the apostle James.
“We pray, walk, celebrate liturgy and break bread together,” said Deacon Jerry Jablonowski, executive director of VITALity, adding that his office is encouraging seniors and their younger family members to participate and show “a public witness of our spiritual and physical vitality.”
The day, he continued, “celebrates our shared faith, which must be passed on to the next generation.”
Karen Fisher, manager of parish-based senior programs for VITALity, hopes the day of fresh air and faith “will tighten the bonds of family and friendship” for attendees. “It’s such a perfect way to spend time together, physically and spiritually.”
