Squeals of laughter permeated the blue skies over Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson, as Catholic youth and families from across the state came together May 21 for the annual New Jersey Catholic Youth Rally. Those from the (arch)dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Newark, Paterson and Trenton gathered for fun, faith and fellowship against the backdrop of rollercoasters, games, amusement park-type foods and more.

“Christ was truly present as young people evangelized with their presence and by living the sacraments in the park,” said Jose Rodriguez, director of the Diocese of Camden’s Office of Family and Youth Ministry.
Auxiliary Bishop Michael A. Saporito, DD, of the Archdiocese of Newark celebrated Mass in the park’s arena, the day also marking the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord Jesus. He reminded the young faithful that in a world full of uncertainty, they, too, have much in common with the apostles who were present the day Jesus ascended into heaven. “They were scared and worried,” he said, but unlike the apostles, “We have no need to look up to see Christ because He is right in front of us – In the Eucharist and in each other.”
