Mass for murder victims

Mass for murder victims

A woman holds a candle for Joshua Hernandez, who died at age 28 of multiple gunshot wounds on Dec. 31, 2017. He and 20 others who died violently in Camden City during the preceding year were remembered during Nov. 25 at Sacred Heart Church’s Mass for the murdered. The victims range in age from 15 to 61. All but one — Elaine Jiminez who died of stab wounds — were killed by gunshots. “Camden is a casualty of racism, greed, fear, real estate profit making, etc., etc., and a war economy. The result is blood enough to stain many hands,” reads the message in the parish bulletin. “May God help the city of Camden and change the hearts of the powerful who oppress it!”
