Sister Helen Ippoliti, 93, who taught at St. Joseph High School, Hammonton, died on Friday, July 23, at the Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, N.J.
Born in Yonkers, N.Y., Sister Helen entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in May 1938. She received the habit in December 1938 and made her religion profession in 1941.
Sister Helen began her teaching ministry at Villa Walsh High School in 1939. She taught junior high classes at St. Ann, N.Y., and she continued to teach at the high school level in Trenton and in Hammonton, where she taught at St. Joseph High School from 1954-60. She returned to Villa Walsh, Morristown as a high school and Villa Walsh college teacher.
In 1966, she was elected the provincial superior of the Province of St. Lucy, Morristown. She served in that office for six years, and in 1972, she was elected General Councilor and she resided at the Generalate in Rome, Italy until 1984. Upon returning to the United States, Sister Helen was appointed administrator of Villa Victoria Academy, Trenton, and also taught at the high school. In 1984 she returned to Villa Walsh, where she served as librarian in the high school until she retired in 1994. She resided in the Villa Walsh Infirmary-St. Joseph Hall from 2004 until her death.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated July 27, in the St. Lucy Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown.
Sister Helen is survived by two sisters, Carmella De Losa and Grace Magaletta, their spouses, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Gaetano and Rose (Maffia), and her brothers Thomas and Alfonse.
