On Sept. 6 David Powers, business manager at Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, was killed suddenly in a tragic automobile accident in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, just blocks from his home.
The school administration, faculty and staff were in the midst of orientation when the news was received in Cherry Hill.
Mr. Powers had worked at the school since May, coming out of retirement to devote his days to the accounting work that he so loved and was so adept at performing. Despite his short time as a member of the administration, Mr. Powers was known as a loyal employee, devoted Catholic, respected businessman and kind friend to the entire Camden Catholic family.
“Dave was such a kind person who truly enjoyed his work as a Catholic school administrator,” said President Mary Whipkey. “He worked diligently to better our processes and procedures, always in the best interests of our school and community. He was smart, devoted, dedicated and a true friend to our entire staff. There is no replacing his talent or his kindness.”
Mr. Powers was a lifelong resident of Havertown. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.
He earned his MBA at Temple University, was a graduate of Villanova University and Monsignor Bonner High School. As a Certified Public Accountant he had a successful career, co-founding Asher & Company, Ltd. where he worked for more than 36 years. Asher is known as one of the Philadelphia area’s leading accounting and advisory firms.
Funeral arrangements: A viewing will be held Friday evening, from 6-8 p.m. at Ruffenach Funeral Home (4900 Township Line Road, Drexel Hill, PA 19026); Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Saint Dorothy’s Church (next to Ruffenach Funeral Home), with viewing 9-10:30 a.m. prior to Mass.
