Father Carmen A. Carlone, former pastor at Catholic communities in Vineland, Williamstown, Berlin, and Hammonton, died May 29 at the age of 77.
In 2010, Father Carlone retired after 41 years as an active priest in the Diocese of Camden.
Born in Penns Grove on May 14, 1943, he studied at the Pontifical North American College in Rome before being ordained there on Dec. 19, 1969 by Cardinal James A. Hickey of Washington. His first assignment was as parochial vicar at Saint Ann, Wildwood from 1970-74.
Father Carlone served as parochial vicar at Saint Stephen Parish, Pennsauken, 1974-80, before being named administrator, and later pastor at Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Vineland, 1980-92.
For the next 18 years, he was pastor at three other parishes: Saint Mary, Williamstown, 1992-2004; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Berlin, 2004-06; and Saint Joseph, Hammonton, 2006-10.
Outside the parish, Father Carlone served as spiritual director of separated and divorced Catholics and for the New Vision Group in Vineland.
