Sister Regina Lafferty, 87, Daughter of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and educator at schools in the Diocese of Camden, died on June 6.
Born in Co. Donegal, Ireland, she was one of eight children born to the late John and Sarah Lafferty.
Sister Regina ministered for 65 years in the United States, with time spent in the Diocese of Camden’s schools in Barrington (Saint Francis de Sales) and West Collingswood (Transfiguration). In addition, she taught at schools in Pennsylvania and Alabama.
“Sister Regina had a special calling to minister to the poor, the elderly and the sick of the parishes in which she visited,” her order remembered in a statement announcing her death.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews both in Ireland and in the United States.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 9 at Saint Joachim Parish, Annunciation Church in Bellmawr. Interment followed at New Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Bellmawr. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 160 Ninth Ave., Runnemede, NJ 08078.
