Bishop Joseph A. Galante announces the retirement of four priests:
– Father Charles Conaty, Campus Minister, St. Joseph High School, Hammonton and In Residence, St. Mary of Mount Carmel, Hammonton, will retire for medical reasons May 20.
– Msgr. James R. Tracy, pastor, St. Charles Borromeo, Sicklerville, will retire July 31.
– Father John J. Tumosa, pastor, St. Rose of Lima, Newfield, will retire June 13.
– Father Josef A. Wagenhoffer, pastor, St. Joseph, Somers Point, will retire June 30.
Father Conaty, 54, has been at St. Joseph High School since 2003, having served as a teacher and president before assuming his current position as campus minister last year.
He also worked for a time at Wildwood Catholic High School as vice principal.
Father Conaty was pastor of St. Matthew Parish, National Park, 2005-07, and parochial vicar at St. Mary, Williamstown; St. Edward, Pine Hill; Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Berlin; and St. Martin de Porres, Hammonton.
He attended Christ the King Seminary, East Auroa, N.Y. and was ordained in Camden May 28, 1988.
Msgr. Tracy, 74, has served in the fields of Catholic education, diocesan administration and parish work.
He holds a doctorate in philosophy from the University of St. Thomas, Rome, and was ordained there Dec. 18, 1960.
He taught at both Camden Catholic High School, Cherry Hill, and Holy Spirit, Absecon, and became principal of St. James High School, Carneys Point, in 1968. His next step was superintendent of schools in 1970 and then secretary for education in 1980.
His other administrative positions include chairman of the Diocesan RCIA Implementation Committee; and vicar general for pastoral life.
He has served as pastor of three parishes: St. Bridget, Glassboro, 1982-91; St. Peter Celestine, Cherry Hill, 1991-2000; and St. Charles Borromeo, Sicklerville, 2002-current.
Father Tumosa, 68, has been pastor of St. Rose of Lima Parish since 1994.
After graduating from Immaculate Conception Seminary, he was ordained in Camden May 31, 1969.
He has been parochial vicar at St. Rose of Lima, 1969-72; St. Lawrence, Lindenwold, 1972-77; St. Augustine, Ocean City, 1977-81; St. Jude, Blackwood, 1981-85; Queen of Heaven, Cherry Hill, 1985-89; and St. John Vianney, Deptford, 1989-94.
He also has served as a Pre-Cana team moderator; spiritual moderator for Separated and Divorced Catholics; and moderator for New Beginnings of Gloucester County.
Father Wagenhoffer, 71, has been pastor of St. Joseph Parish since 1996 and previously served as pastor and administrator of St. Peter, Pleasantville, 1979-96.
He attended American College, Louvain, Belgium, and was ordained there June 26, 1965.
He joined the faculty at Holy Spirit High School, Absecon, in 1966 and in 1972 was appointed minister of Stockton State College and Atlantic County College.
He has been a member of the Ecumenical Commission, the Priests Council and the Committee on Pastoral Ministry.
