Three-time Grammy nominee Marty Rotella has three questions for you, the same questions he will pose his audience when he shares his unique blend of song and storytelling at Church of the Incarnation, Mantua, on April 18 at 7 p.m.
“I’m going to ask, ‘Who is God? Who am I? What is love?’” Rotella said in his rapid-fire, northern New Jersey accent during a recent telephone interview with the Catholic Star Herald from his tour stop in New Mexico. “These are the three most important questions to ask, not once, but every day.”
Rotella, who with his brother, Jules, forms the “Spirit Power” music ministry, has been asking those three questions ever since his self-proclaimed “major conversion” at age 24. The singer/songwriter/evangelist invites his listeners to worship, pray and reflect on the way to healing and help the inner self encounter love.
Rotella has presented the Gospel message of Jesus’ love in 43 states as well as in Australia, Europe, Central and South America and Canada. With more than 30 years of ministry through teaching in northern New Jersey schools and serving as a motivational speaker, he has presented in churches, schools, conferences and prisons. He and his brother have penned more than 4,000 songs, Rotella said, all fulfilling his mission to bring the love of Jesus to as many individuals as possible.
The Mantua appearance falls neatly between Easter and Pentecost, Rotella noted, and his message encompasses both Church feast days.
“Our purpose is to love, that is the Easter message,” he said. “The Holy Spirit is love, that is the Pentecost message. Go, have a fire in your heart. Make God simple, not complicated. If you are looking for peace and hope,” Rotella advised his future audience members, “just come.”
His thoughts on the ongoing National Eucharistic Revival dovetail perfectly into his message and overall ministry. “Jesus made it simple,” Rotella said. “He put himself into a little piece of bread and said, ‘Love me.’”
The lyrics to his most recent song, “Jesus Hidden,” attest:
“I trust in the power of his love
Amid darkness and shadows of night
For he is my one inspiration
He’s my only purpose, He’s my light
Jesus hidden, lighting up my heart
Jesus promise, I will never part
Jesus hidden in the words he said
Jesus present in the living bread.”
The Church of Incarnation is located at 240 Main St., Mantua. For more information, call the parish office at 856-468-1314, or see Rotella’s website at spiritpowermusic.org.
