Three Catholic organizations have expressed gratitude to Bishop Dennis Sullivan for the Diocese of Camden’s generosity in recent collections.
Msgr. Peter I. Vaccari, president of the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) and Pontifical Mission, sent a letter thanking the Diocese for the $6,763 the papal organization received, which represented a portion of the 2022 World Mission Sunday collection that South Jersey’s faithful contributed to.
“CNEWA is most grateful to … all your faithful for your generosity toward the suffering people the Church serves through [our] mission,” which include Eastern Catholics in places such as Israel, Egypt and Ukraine, who contend with issues such as “oppression, war-like conditions, persecution,” Msgr. Vaccari wrote.
The Most Rev. Timothy P. Broglio, archbishop for the Military Services, USA, thanked Bishop Sullivan and the faithful for the $77,155 recently collected. This ministry provides outreach to Catholic military men, women and their families.
The Diocese’s aid, he wrote, will help these individuals “while they serve our country, attend one of the U.S. Military Academies, or are cared for during injury or illness in a Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Know that your intentions will be remembered at Holy Mass.”
Sister Stephanie Still, PBVM, executive director of the National Religious Retirement Office, thanked South Jersey for “your generous support” to the 2022 Retirement Fund for Religious collection, which falls under the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The $147,802, she wrote, will help the organization continue to provide financial and educational assistance to religious communities, who in turn, also help their oldest members with needs including medication and nursing care.
“I offer a daily prayer of thanksgiving for all whose love and sacrifice make the work of our office possible,” she said.
