The Board of Trustees for the South Jersey Scholarship Fund (SJSF) recently presented South Jersey Catholic Schools with a check for $110,000 at Tavistock Country Club. The income will be distributed to all of the diocesan Catholic schools to help meet the need for tuition assistance.

Of the funds, $10,000 is earmarked for the Catholic high schools to award to junior or senior students who are simultaneously enrolled in courses in Rowan College of South Jersey in Gloucester County.

“The SJSF is an opportunity fund for students who otherwise would not be able to access a Catholic education. Its generous donors make all the benefits of a Catholic education available and affordable for families across South Jersey,” said Dr. Bill Watson, superintendent of Catholic schools for the Diocese of Camden.

The income is raised primarily through the SJSF’s Spring Sprint for scholarships and Christmas appeals.

“We’re so pleased to provide this gift to the Diocese of Camden’s Office of Catholic Schools to help families throughout South Jersey with tuition assistance. Along with the other South Jersey Scholarship Fund board members, I am grateful for the dedicated donors who make this possible,” said Christine Messina, vice president of the SJSF Board of Trustees. “Our goal is to enable as many students as possible to remain in their Catholic schools when faced with economic challenges.”

The SJSF, founded in 2001, exists to help bridge the gap between need and tuition for families who want their children to continue receiving a Catholic Education. In the 2022-23 school year, that gap was more than $2 million. With this in mind, contributions are welcome at bit.ly/SJScholarshipFund.
