Eight senior athletes from Paul VI High School, Haddon Township, will formally sign with NCAA teams on Wednesday, April 25. The student signings include Johnel Anderson (Division 1, football, Old Dominion University); Cassie Nicholas (Division 1, basketball, Stevens Institute); Max Albertus (Division 2, football, Quincy University); Roosevelt Cubbage (Division 2, basketball, Wilmington University); Malik Groover (Division 2, football, Assumption College); Ryan Mitchel (Division 2, soccer, Wells College); Taylor Rasmussen (Division 2, track and field, Kings College, Tenn.); and Zach Cooper (Division 3, football, Gettysburg College).

Gloucester Catholic junior Siobhan McGirl received the Outstanding Achievement Award in the 2012 KYW 1060 Newsradio program recently. GCHS junior Monica Bogan also took part in the KYW program. Their news stories about GCHS are being broadcast on air in April.

Olivia Locantore, a fourth grade student at Good Shepherd School, Collingswood, has been selected to receive an award in the “Celebrate NJ” Fourth Grade New Jersey Studies writing contest. More than 8,000 students participated in researching and writing an article for their online newspaper, “The New Jersey Scoop.” The judges selected 243 of the “Best of the Best” to be included in the 2012 publication. Olivia will be honored with other students in an awards event at Rowan University on Wednesday, May 2.

The Good Shepherd School Choir was invited to participate in the “National Cherry Blossom” Parade in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, April 14. Music teacher Lynn Thibault, coordinated the event.

Patrick Powers, an eighth grader at Bishop McHugh Regional Catholic School, Cape May Court House, attended the Delaware Valley Science Fair at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center April 4. Patrick received Honorable Mention for his chemistry project. Zachary Tomlin, a seventh grader, also represented the school.

Nine students from St. Anthony of Padua School, Camden. will be honored with a South Jersey Youth Service Award from NJ Students in Action, which encourages school youth to serve their community. The nine students, who made up St. Anthony’s Student Leaders’ Von Nieda Park Task Force, are Vianca Salcedo, Nicole Valladares, Victor Akinlotan, Cianie Yambo, John Pina, Gloria Gutierrez, Soledad Velazquez, Lizbeth Pena and Joseph Payero. They entered NJ Students in Action’s 2012 Make Service Count Challenge and were recognized in the Environment category. The students will be honored on Saturday, May 5 at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton.
