The first home track meet for Paul VI High School, Haddon Township, became a tribute to Ricky Phillips, a 2008 Paul VI graduate who was killed in a car accident in December 2011. A 400 hurdler, Ricky ran for four years at the high school. Before Paul VI’s meet against Bishop Eustace, Pennsauken, on April 11, there was a moment of silence followed by the Star Spangled Banner. The Phillips family presented the track team with long-sleeved T-shirts, that were inscribed with Paul VI Track Team, and Ricky’s name. The Ricky Phillips Memorial Fund, established by his family, has thus far raised $5,000 for the Paul VI Track Team, and the funds will be used for the construction of a pole vault garage in Ricky’s name. Above, Ricky’s sister, Christy, clears a hurdle to win her race for Paul VI.
