Holy Spirit High School graduate Greg Roman has joined the Los Angeles Chargers as the team’s offensive coordinator, the team announced on Feb. 8.
Roman, a Ventnor native and a 1991 graduate of Holy Spirit, reunites with head coach Jim Harbaugh, as the two worked together previously at Stanford University and for the San Francisco 49ers.
During his playing days, Roman played football at Holy Spirit under the late coach Ed Byrnes and was an All-South Jersey lineman and a two-time Non-Public A South state sectional champion before continuing his career at John Carroll University in Ohio.
Roman’s coaching resume includes a variety of assistant coaching jobs for the Carolina Panthers, Houston Texans, Buffalo Bills and two stints with the Baltimore Ravens.
In 2008, with more than a decade of NFL coaching experience under his belt, Roman had taken a break from the professional ranks and served as the offensive coordinator for Holy Spirit’s football team for one season. He then took a job as associate head coach under Harbaugh at Stanford and eventually worked his way back into the NFL alongside Harbaugh as an offensive coordinator when Harbaugh was hired as head coach by the 49ers.
Most recently, Roman served as offensive coordinator for the Ravens before stepping down in January 2023. Roman will once again serve under Harbaugh in Los Angeles, who was hired a month after winning the College Football Playoff National Championship with the University of Michigan.
