Priests of the Diocese of Camden who are celebrating milestone anniversaries this year were honored at a Jubilarian Mass on Oct. 22 at Saint Paul Church, Saint Brendan the Navigator Parish, Avalon.
Father Nicholas Dudo, diocesan vicar for clergy, congratulated the jubilarian priests in attendance: Msgr. Leonard Scott, 60 years; Msgr. William Hodge, 50 years, and Father Robert Matysik, 40 years.
In his homily, Msgr. Scott – a retired priest of the Diocese – related stories of his early life and priesthood. He shared that he first thought of being a priest when he was just 10 years old, and he reflected on being accepted as the first Black seminarian for the Diocese of Camden by then-Bishop Bartholomew J. Eustace.

“It’s been a great experience,” he said of his priesthood. “To sum it up, the Grace of God has been there. I did these things not because of my qualities, but because the Lord was with me … as the Lord is with each of us.”
Bishop Dennis Sullivan served as the principal celebrant at the Mass, with Coadjutor Bishop Joseph Williams among the concelebrants.
From Oct. 21-23, priests of the Diocese of Camden were gathered in Avalon for the annual Presbyteral Convocation.
Other priests of the Diocese who are celebrating jubilees this year: 60 years – Father Patrick J. Brady, Father A. Robert Cairone and Father Neal F. Dante; 50 years – Father Massimo S. Fasciglione; 40 years – Father Edward F. Heintzelman and Father Timothy L. Hubbs.
