Members of the New Jersey State Knights of Columbus are collecting donations and supplies to help those in North Carolina and Florida recently affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

“It is hard to imagine one minute going about your business and the next minute fighting for your life and having your world turned upside down,” said Raymond Sands, New Jersey State Deputy.

“The Knights of Columbus in New Jersey are continuing [founder] Blessed McGivney’s mission to help our brothers and their families in need,” he continued.

Three weeks ago, Hurricane Helene ravaged parts of North Carolina and its residents, with 95 confirmed fatalities as of press time. The Florida death toll from Hurricane Milton, which made landfall in the state two weeks ago, stands at 32. Countless others are working to rebuild their lives, homes, and communities amidst power outages, and gas and food shortages.

The Knights of Columbus’ New Jersey State Council has established a website – njkofc.com/disaster-relief – where those interested can donate monetary funds or supplies to these affected states. Donors can give money directly through the website via credit card; purchase needed goods online, and ship them to the needy at a designated address; or collect items and arrange for the New Jersey Knights to assist with pickup and delivery to locations such as Saint Lawrence Church in Asheville, N.C.

The website also includes a list of needed material items such as medical supplies, water, non-perishable foods and children’s clothing.

So far, the New Jersey State Council has raised approximately $22,000 for the hurricane relief efforts in Florida and North Carolina, Sands said.  Any donation, material or monetary, will “inspire and significantly impact our efforts [to help],” he said.

What You Can Do

• To help those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, visit njkofc.com/disaster-relief. The site lists how, what and where to donate, as well as how to schedule a pickup of goods.

• Among the items needed: water, sports drinks/hydration packs, cleaning supplies, trash bags, sunscreen, bug spray, toiletries, baby formula/diapers, pet food, sleeping bags/blankets, and clothing for men, women and children.
