For weeks, the Diocese’s Catholic schools have been busy collecting food and other items for people in their communities to be able to enjoy a Thanksgiving meal. As they helped those in need, Catholic students and faculty reflected on their own lives, answering the question: What are you thankful for this year?

Saint Mary School, Williamstown

“There are so many things in life that we just take for granted. I am thankful for my family, friends and community. They are always there to support me and lift me up. I am grateful for my home, for sheltering me and strong memories. I am thankful for our planet Earth, for all that it brings forth, supporting life and granting us beautiful views. We should all be grateful for who we are; we are different and unique. Most importantly, I am thankful for God, for without Him, none of these things would be possible.”

~ Francis, 5th grade, Saint Mary School, Williamstown

Saint Teresa Regional School, Runnemede

“I’m deeply thankful for having access to great food every day. Being able to go home to a meal is something not everyone has, and I never take it for granted.”

~ Kyle Filinuk, Gloucester Catholic High School

Saint Rose of Lima School, Haddon Heights

“I’m especially grateful for my mom, not only for giving me life but for keeping a roof over my head and supporting me every day. I’m grateful for my cousin. I’m thankful for my sister. Most of all, I’m thankful to God for blessing me with life, love, and the ability to cherish those around me. Without God, I wouldn’t feel the joy and gratitude I do for the amazing people in my life.”

~ Zy’Air Mercado, Gloucester Catholic High School

Saint Vincent de Paul Regional School, Mays Landing

“I am thankful to attend a Catholic school. We have Mass every month, which personally helps me follow my faith.”

~ Natalie Nguyen, Our Lady Star of the Sea Regional School, Atlantic City

Guardian Angels Regional School, Gibbstown/Swedesboro

“My parents, now passed, taught my three siblings and me the true meaning of life and love through their example. …

For the past 26 years, I’ve been blessed with my incredible best friend, wife and the amazing mother of our daughter, Ellie. Together, we have been blessed with Abby. As a family, we have navigated life’s triumphs and challenges hand in hand. I am also grateful for the opportunity to be a part of Gloucester Catholic, my second family.”

~ Jeff Cordner, director of guidance, Gloucester Catholic High School
