Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish is hosting a public veneration of a 1st class relic of Saint Nicholas of Myra this weekend at its Saint Nicholas Church in Egg Harbor City.
The relic, a bone fragment, was gifted to the parish by the Shrine of All Saints in Morton Grove, Illinois, in honor of the church’s 160th anniversary.
Saint Nicholas of Myra was a 4th century Greek Bishop, known for his charity and protection of youth and seafarers, and defense of the Christian faith. Revered around the world in Christian communities, it has become a global tradition to give gifts on his feast day, Dec. 6., in imitation of his example.
Veneration will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 12-3 p.m. in Saint Nicholas Church, 525 Saint Louis Avenue, Egg Harbor City. On Sunday, Dec. 8 at 10 a.m., an English/Spanish Mass will be celebrated in Saint Nicholas Church with the relic.
The public is invited to both events.
After the veneration and Mass, the relic will be permanently housed in Saint Nicholas Church, next to a statue of the saint.
