In his work with Catholic Charities and Lay Ministry Formation, Kevin Connor served the Diocese of Camden with passion and a guiding hand toward the needy and underprivileged, and those discerning a life of ministry.
Connor, who died in 2010 at the age of 59, was a LaSalle University graduate who worked as CFO and COO of Frankford Hospital, and president of Health Care Financial Management Association, before being named director of Development at Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Camden.
In this capacity, Connor wrote grant applications and worked to help the impoverished and needy in the city of Camden, After Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, Connor spearheaded the relief effort in the diocese, not only raising money for those affected but starting Project One, which saw teams of volunteers from the Camden Diocese go to Louisiana and help rebuild the city. On his own, Connor helped with the clearing of destroyed properties in New Orleans so new homes could be built.
Before his death, Connor served as director of Lay Ministry Formation and helped the laity in the Diocese of Camden understand their call to ministry.
An active member of Holy Saviour Parish in Westmont, he served as its Youth Ministry director. In 2011, after Connor’s death, two members of the parish youth group, who distinguished themselves in their community and social justice work, were the first recipients of the $1,000 Kevin Connor Youth Scholarship Award.
At its annual Justice for ALL awards dinner in 2009, Catholic Charities presented Connor with its Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio award for leadership, recognizing the gifts he shared with the diocese for almost a decade.
