Bishop Dennis Sullivan will institute two seminarians for the Diocese of Camden, Matthew Corbett and Edward Kennedy, into the Ministry of Acolyte, a formal step toward ordination.
The Institution will take place this Sunday, March 10, during 10:30 a.m. Mass at St. Peter Church in Merchantville.
Matthew Corbett, 24, is currently studying at St. Mary’s Seminary in Baltimore. With St. Peter Church as his home parish, Corbett is a graduate of Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, and of College Seminary- St. Andrew’s Hall at Seton Hall University in South Orange, where he majored in Catholic theology.
Edward Kennedy, 30, is also studying at St. Mary’s in Baltimore. With St. Nicholas of Tolentine, Atlantic City as his home parish, he is a graduate of Holy Spirit High School in Absecon, and of College Seminary- St. Andrew’s Hall at Seton Hall, majoring in Catholic theology.
The ministry involves service at the altar amidst the assembly of the faithful. Also, it is a ministry to persons who cannot be with the assembly — persons confined to their homes or to an institution.
An Acolyte is appointed to aid the deacon and to minister to the priest at the altar, and as special ministers, to give holy Communion to the faithful during Mass, and to the sick.
