WILLIAMSTOWN – The Catholic Daughters of the Americas Council #1808 hosted their ninth annual prom for individuals with special needs – a tradition, organizers say, that continues to touch hearts and bring the community together.
Held in the auditorium of Saint Mary School, the space was transformed into a festive celebration. Colorful balloons, streamers and lively music set the scene, as attendees were welcomed with cheers and warm smiles – many seeing friends they’ve met through past years at the event.
“This is truly heartwarming,” said Pat Adams, regent of Catholic Daughters Council #1808. “It’s one of the highlights of our year.”
Among the many excited guests was Jaime Sasso, who smiled wide when asked how the event made him feel. “So good!”
Sasso was crowned prom king last year, and his parents, Jaime and Michele, said the moment left a lasting impression.
“He talks about it often,” Michele Sasso said. “By the grace of God, Jaime is allowed to express himself in this way.”

Those sentiments of joy, expression and inclusion were echoed throughout the event. Teresa Iannaco, a Catholic Daughter and member of Our Lady of Peace Parish, said the prom is special not only for the attendees, but also for the volunteers and organizers.
“It puts joy in the hearts of Catholic Daughters,” she said. “To see everyone dancing, laughing and being their true selves – it’s something really special.”
Some attendees wore elegant dresses and suits, adding to the excitement and sense of occasion.
As the afternoon wound down, talk was already buzzing about next year’s milestone event. “I get the sense that there will be much anticipation for next year’s prom,” one volunteer remarked.
