All are invited to join Bishop Joseph Williams and the faith community of Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Collingwood, for a local pilgrimage of prayer, fellowship and encounter.
The Jubilee 2025 Walking Pilgrimage will take place Sept. 6, starting with 9 a.m. Mass at Saint John Church. After Mass, celebrated by Bishop Williams, the pilgrimage will begin: a 3.8-mile walk to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Camden. Those unable to make the trek have the option of driving their own car or taking the PATCO Speedline from Collingswood to Camden’s Broadway Station.
Once pilgrims arrive, Father Stephen Robbins, the Cathedral’s parochial vicar, will lead a tour of the historic church. Lunch will follow in Cathedral Hall.
In this Jubilee Year of Hope, the pilgrimage is a way to witness the Catholic faith, said Father Steven Bertonazzi, pastor of Saint Teresa of Calcutta. To that end, there will be prayers and recitation of the rosary during the walk; prayer cards with Mass times for his parish, and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, will be available for all.
“We don’t know who we’ll encounter on our journey, but we hope others see us on the streets and say to themselves, ‘What’s going on there?’” Father Bertonazzi said. “This is an opportunity for those we meet to see our hope in Christ and share it with others.”
Daniela Lim, director of religious education for the Collingswood parish, helped organize the event. She calls the experience a “a great way to celebrate and evangelize our faith.”
“Christ calls us to go out,” she said. “We can’t stay inside our homes; we need to open our doors, see others and share the Good News.”
The Jubilee 2025 Walking Pilgrimage on Sept. 6 will begin at Saint John Church (Saint Teresa of Calcutta Parish), 809 Park Ave., Collingswood, and end at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 642 Market St., Camden. The event is free, but registration is encouraged. To R.S.V.P., call 856-858-0298 or e-mail DLim@stteresaofcalcuttanj.org.
