All are invited to join Bishop Joseph Williams for the annual White Mass, which honors doctors, nurses and all healthcare professionals serving South Jersey.
Organized by VITALity Catholic Healthcare Services Diocese of Camden and the South Jersey Catholic Medical Guild, the Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Williams at 1 p.m. on Oct. 12 in the chapel of Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Camden. In addition, the chapel’s new altar will be consecrated during the liturgy.
The White Mass is typically held closest to the feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist, patron saint of physicians and healthcare workers. His feast day is Oct. 18.
This year’s Saint Luke Award for medical excellence will be presented to two individuals: Dr. James A. Espinosa, emergency room attending physician at Jefferson Hospital in Stratford, who is a parishioner of Saint Simon Stock Parish, Berlin; and Dr. Judith Lightfoot, associate professor of medicine, and chair of the Department of Medicine and chief of Infectious Diseases at Rowan-Virtua School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford. She is a parishioner of Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish in Glassboro.
There will be a reception immediately following the Mass.
