From the Office of the Diaconate:
Bishop Joseph A. Williams has re-instituted the practice of an Apostolic Diocesan Assignment to the permanent diaconate, in addition to the deacon’s parish assignment.
The re-institution of an Apostolic Diocesan Assignment is not intended to take away from the ministry that the deacon does at his assigned parish. Rather, it is intended to simply formalize the ministry that may be needed in the region or in a particular ministry. It is not expected or intended to overburden any deacon, as a deacon also has responsibilities to his wife, family, occupation and parish.
Deacons are ministers ordained to serve the people of God through word, liturgy and charity on behalf of the bishop. A deacon is an extension of the bishop’s own pastoral charity into the world.
Additional assignments will be forthcoming in the near future.
