What do the Catholic Star Herald, Talking Catholic podcast, livestreamed ordinations and initiatives such as the recent “Journal Through Lent” spiritual video reflections have in common?
They are all supported by the annual Catholic Communication Campaign.
This year, faithful across the Diocese of Camden will be asked to give to this collection the weekend of May 16-17.
When a Diocese collects funds for this campaign, 50% of the proceeds remain within that diocese for communications projects and initiatives. Last year, the Diocese of Camden collected $71,168, with $35,314 remaining in the Diocese.
In his message for the 60th World Day of Social Communications, which is May 17, Pope Leo talks about the ways “in which God communicates His very self to us.”
“We need to cherish the gift of communication as the deepest truth of humanity, to which all technological innovation should also be oriented,” he said.
More than 10 years before becoming pope, then-Father Robert Provost sat down for an interview with Catholic News Service in Rome to talk about the importance of Catholic media – especially in a time when people have become alienated from God and need help to rediscover His presence.
“I think most people in the Church recognize today the need for the media, the need that the Church has to get the Word out to people,” he said.
