sranna-webSister Anna Eleuteri, MPF, 93, who served for three decades in Merchantville and Hammonton, died unexpectedly at St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, N.J., on Feb. 16.
A viewing will be held Feb. 21, from 2-4 p.m. at St. Lucy Chapel, Villa Walsh, Morristown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 4 p.m. Interment will take place at Ave Maria Cemetery.
Born in Trenton, Sister Anna entered the Religious Teachers Filippini on Sept. 13, 1931. She received the religious habit on July 5, 1936, and her final religious profession was on July 2, 1939.
Sister Anna was awarded a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University. She taught in elementary schools in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York and Rhode Island. She served as both principal and superior at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Orange, N.J., (1955-64); Assumption, Bayonne, N.J., (1964-66); Our Lady of Lourdes, Union City, N.J. (1969-72); and St. Joseph, Lodi, N.J. (1972-75).
Sister Anna spent the last 30 years of her ministry in the Diocese of Camden at St. Peter, Merchantville, and St. Joseph, Hammonton. In addition to teaching, Sister Anna was also the music instructor and always proud of the quality of her choir.
“Although she put her heart and soul in every assignment given her, in this last segment of ministry, St. Peter, Merchantville, and St. Joseph, Hammonton, became home for her,” the community said in announcing her death.
In 2003, Sister Anna was awarded the Bishop’s Medal for meritorious service in the Camden Diocese.
Sister Anna is the daughter of the late Amerigo (Thomas) Eleuteri and Anita (Puri) Eleuteri, and sister of the late Thomas Eleuteri. She is survived by her sister Anita Joyce Eleuteri Oliver, sister-in-law Charlotte Eleuteri, niece Anita Eleuteri Cameron, nephew Thomas Eleuteri, and other nieces and nephews.
Donations in memory of Sister Anna Eleuteri may be sent to St. Joseph Hall, c/o Sister Ascenza Tizzano, MPF, Provincial Superior, Villa Walsh, 455 Western Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960.
