The Parish Nurse Council will present the Foundations of Faith Community Nursing course this summer to current parish nurses and registered nurses or senior nursing students who are interested in parish nursing.
The successful completion of the course will lead to certification as a Faith Community Nurse by the International Parish Nurse Resource Center.
The fee for the course is $250, but scholarships are available for the full amount for nurses who are currently active in parish nursing or who commit themselves to serve as a parish nurse within the Diocese of Camden. In order to qualify for the scholarship, the nurse requires a letter of endorsement from the pastor of the parish.
The 32 hour program is being presented June 14, June 29, July 12 and July 26 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Katherine Drexel’s Parish Life Center in Egg Harbor Township.
The curriculum includes spirituality, professionalism, wholistic health, and community. The principal faculty member is Donna Callaghan, Ph.D., RN, GCNS-BC. Dr. Callaghan is an associate professor nursing at Widener University. She is certified as a faith community nurse and is immediate past president of the Parish Nurse Council of the Diocese of Camden and coordinator of the Parish Nurse Ministry at Our Lady of Peace Parish in Williamstown.
Guest speakers who are experts in the field will present some of the topics.
Those who complete the course will learn the scope and standards of practice which were published in 2012 through a collaboration of the Health Ministries Association and the American Nurses Association.
Registration deadline for the program is May 9. Further information is available on the Council website www.camdenparishnurses.org, by email to parishnurses@camdendiocese.org or by calling 856-342-4176.
