“A History of Black Catholics in America” will be presented Sunday, Feb. 28, at 11:15 a.m. in the lower level of St. Patrick Church, Holy Angels Parish, Woodbury.
The guest speaker will be Msgr. Leonard Scott, the first African-American priest elevated to the rank of monsignor in the Diocese of Camden, and the second to be so honored in the United States.
Msgr. Scott was ordained in Rome on Dec. 12, 1964. During his more than 50 years as a priest of the Diocese of Camden, Msgr. Scott served as the Judicial Vicar of the diocese and was pastor of three parishes. In retirement he continues to assist at local parishes, including Holy Angels, and remains involved in Black Catholic Ministries in the diocese.
