Andres Arango was recently elected national coordinator for the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal (CCR) in the United States and Canada.
Arango is director of Evangelization, Young Adult and Campus Ministries for the Diocese of Camden, a position he will continue to hold.
He was chosen for his CCR position during the annual meeting for the Hispanic National Service Committee for the Catholic Charismatic Renewal (Comite Nacional de Servicio Hispano, CNSH), held in New York from Nov. 12-14. The CNSH comprises a spiritual director, national coordinator, four members and eight regional representatives.
With this new ministry, Arango also became a member of the CONCCLAT (Consejo Catolico Carismatico Latinoamericano- Latin-American Catholic Charismatic Committee).
On this committee, he represents the United States and Canada, and will work, together with 20 other national coordinators from several countries of Latin America, to promote the vision of the CCR in the Spanish-speaking community across the continent.
Arango’s position as National Coordinator, a volunteer ministry, will start next May, during the ECCLE (Encuentro Catolico Carismatico Latino Estadounidense) in Kansas City, Mo.
“I think this new ministry will give me a great experience to enhance the continuing work in the evangelization projects here in our diocese,” he said.
Since 2009, Arango has been director of Evangelization, Young Adult, and Campus Ministries. From 2003-08, he served as coordinator of the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the Diocese of Sacramento, and served as regional representative to the Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal Pacific Region. He is also a current member of the National Hispanic Catholic Charismatic Renewal Executive Committee, preaching at retreats and conferences at both national and international levels.
He holds a master’s of theological studies from the Franciscan School of Theology (Berkeley, Calif.); a bachelor’s in production engineering (EAFIT University, Medellin, Colombia); and associate of arts in philosophy (Misionero del Espiritu Santo Seminary, La Ceja, Colombia); and a certificate in leadership formation from the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Services Institute (Rome).
