The Diocese of Camden is encouraging South Jersey’s faithful to come together to give thanks and give back through #iGiveCatholic, the Catholic Church’s Giving Day. The event takes place Nov. 29, coinciding with Giving Tuesday, the global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and generosity.

The advanced giving phase of this initiative began Nov. 14 and runs through Nov. 28. This marks the second year the Diocese of Camden is participating in #iGiveCatholic. Last fall, nearly $60,000 was raised for participating parishes, schools and ministries throughout the Diocese.

Examples of how the 2021 #iGiveCatholic campaign benefitted local entities: Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Swedesboro, used its funds to paint one of its worship sites, Saint Joseph Church. The most dramatic change was the sanctuary, which is now adorned in a beautiful blue hue. New roofs were installed on Saint Michael Church in Gibbstown and on the Upper Class Guardian Angels Regional School building in Paulsboro.

An after photo of Saint Joseph Church, a worship site of Saint Clare of Assisi Parish, Swedesboro, shows how the parish was able to use contributions from the 2021 #iGiveCatholic campaign to spruce up the sanctuary.

“We were pleased with the results for the inaugural year and look forward to increasing support to charitable, educational and spiritual ministries throughout the Diocese with the 2022 campaign. Traditionally, dioceses across the country have found steady growth in donations in each consecutive year of participation,” said Stacy Napolitano, associate director of major gifts and stewardship for the diocesan Office of Development.

Nineteen parishes, 13 schools (including the five Catholic Partnership schools listed as one organization) and three ministries are participating in this fundraising opportunity. They are seeking funds for initiatives such as new heating and sound systems, outreach to the poor, and bereavement and youth ministries for parishes, to smartboards for school classrooms, upgraded playground equipment and more.

For a list of participating parishes, schools and ministries – and to support them – visit camden.igivecatholic.org. When donors click on a participating entity, they will be directed to a profile page for that specific parish, school or ministry. These links are available through Nov. 29.

“Here in South Jersey, especially during this season, I have always been inspired to see how many people show such generosity of time and spirit. I hope that generous spirit will lead folks to join me in supporting #iGiveCatholic!” said Katie Comerford-Rivera, director of the Office of Development.
