Camden Diocesan employees held a surprise celebration Dec. 11 for Bishop Joseph A. Galante to celebrate his 20 years as a bishop. Ordained in 1964, Bishop Galante served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia; as Undersecretary of the Congregation for Religious in Rome; and as a member of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, and chair of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Communications, before being named Auxiliary Bishop of San Antonio, Texas in 1992. A year and a half later, he was installed as Bishop of Beaumont, Texas, and in 2000 he became coadjutor bishop of Dallas. On April 30, 2004, he became the seventh bishop of the Diocese of Camden.
