Deacon Michael L. Welsh of Cherry Hill died Aug. 3 at the age of 70.
Deacon Welsh was ordained to the diaconate in 2005 by then-Bishop Joseph A. Galante. He served at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Camden (2005-2007); Queen of Heaven Parish, Cherry Hill (2007-2009); and the Catholic Church of Saint Mary, Cherry Hill (2009-2013), before his retirement in 2013.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Josephine (nee Papotto); son Sean and his wife, Tina, and daughter Jennifer Welsh; his grandson, Christian Welsh; sister, Patricia Schumann (John); three nieces, one nephew and great-nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Aug. 7 at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia. Inurnment was at Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, Pa.
