Dominican Sister Lucille Gardner, who taught in Ventnor, dies

Sister Lucille Gardner, OP, died Dec. 30, 2019. Her religious name was Sister Mauricio. The funeral Mass was held at the Dominican motherhouse, Sinsinawa on Jan. 13, followed by burial in the Motherhouse Cemetery.

Sister Lucy made her first religious profession as a Sinsinawa Dominican Aug. 5, 1955, and her perpetual profession Aug. 5, 1958. She served in education as a teacher for 21 years, principal for 11 years, curriculum coordinator for three years, superintendent for six years and counselor for eight years.  In the Diocese of Camden, Sister Lucy taught at Saint James, Ventnor, 1955-57. She also was a consolation minister for 12 years, serving in New Jersey, Illinois, Montana, Oklahoma and Texas.

She is survived by a sister, Mildred Banister; nieces; nephews; and her Dominican Sisters with whom she shared 64 years of religious life.
