On Sunday, March 11, two Catholic generations came together to create an Easter surprise for three Americans stationed in Afghanistan.
Members from the 50-Plus Ministry, and Youth Ministry of Holy Eucharist Parish in Cherry Hill made Easter baskets for Master Sgt. Jason Micklewright; Pfc. Brendan Schick; and John Ryan Bartel. All three are loved ones of Holy Eucharist parishioners.
Packed in 39 boxes, the baskets include toiletries; games; Easter candy; clothing; and personal notes from parishioners, who contributed the content of the baskets.
The Holy Eucharist faithful “opened their wallets and hearts,” said Patricia Spruill, co-coordinator of the 50-Plus Ministry.
On Monday, March 12, the boxes were shipped out to surprise the service members by Easter morning.
