
Father Stanislaus Joseph Kolton, formerly a pastor in Cape May Court House, Newfield and Audubon, died on Dec. 26.
He was 100 years old.
Since 1981, he had been retired.
Born in Camden on Sept. 29, 1920, Father Kolton studied at his hometown elementary and secondary Catholic schools: first Saint Joseph, and later Camden Catholic High School.
He underwent seminary studies at Saint Mary’s in Baltimore, Maryland, and was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Camden on June 29, 1946, by Bishop Bartholomew J. Eustace, the first bishop of Camden.
Father Kolton’s first assignment was as parochial vicar at Oaklyn’s Saint Aloysius Parish, where he served from 1946-47. He also served in this position at Immaculate Conception Parish, Bridgeton (1947-49); Saint John, Collingswood (1949-51); Saint Joseph, Camden (1951-56); and Saint Paul, Stone Harbor (1956).
He served as pastor at Our Lady of the Angels Parish in Cape May Court House from 1956-61, and subsequently at Saint Rose of Lima, Newfield (1961-66), and Holy Maternity, Audubon (1966-78).
Father Kolton taught for several years at Saint Joseph High School in Camden, and served as chaplain at Burdette Tomlin Hospital in Cape May Court House.
Funeral arrangements were private.
