SICKLERVILLE – On Easter Sunday morning, Bishop Dennis Sullivan spread a message of hope, saying, “Christ is Risen. The tomb is empty. God can bring new life from the dead. God can bring hope out of despair.”
Celebrating Mass in Saint Charles Borromeo Church, Bishop Sullivan preached on the glory of Jesus’ Resurrection, explaining that God can bring change even when situations seem unchangeable.
“On this Easter morning, we celebrate Jesus’ triumph over death. We do so with the hope that his victory will be ours. However, it is not just our passing in death that brings new life. It is the whole of our lives,” he said.

“There are times when we are called to set aside our own comfort, interests, desires or needs in order to provide attention and love to another person,” he continued. “We die to self so that we can give life to others. Each one of us can identify one area of our own life that needs to be resurrected from death. Like Christ, we can rise.”
Recounting how Mary Magdalene was the first witness to the Resurrection, the Bishop explained how Jesus transformed her life when he was alive and in his risen state.
“Perhaps we have to enter … our tombs of sickness sadness, fears and tears. From all of them, there can be release. We can be brought to life in God. We can leave our tombs and walk away,” Bishop Sullivan preached. “Easter is as much about what can happen in us, as what happened to the Lord. Christ lives. He lives in us. He is risen. In every pain and heartache; in every joy and love. Our faith is founded on this truth of Christ risen from the dead. This is the Day the Lord has made. I have risen. I am with you.”
