Two important events took place on the feast of Saint Joseph the Worker on May 1 by the Little Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, with a Day of Recollection and Celebration at their Provincialate in Cherry Hill.
The first was their Act of Consecration to Saint Joseph in this Year of Saint Joseph. (Annually, the Congregation renews a Consecration to Saint Joseph on March 19 and observes Wednesdays in his honor.) This special consecration followed a communal 33-day preparation of daily prayer which Mother Dorota Baranowska, Superior Provincial, circulated among the Sisters of the American Province.
The second event observed was the 171st anniversary of the founding of the Congregation of the Little Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, on May 3, 1850, in Podrzecze in the Archdiocese of Poznan by Blessed Edmund Bojanowski, a lay apostle of the landed gentry in Poland.
He undertook various initiatives, organizing, among others, day nursery schools, a home for orphans, relief for the sick and the dying, village libraries and activities.
“The Little Servant Sisters rejoice that the Holy Patriarch, Saint Joseph, who occupied a great place in the heart of Blessed Edmund, has been honored together with the Holy Family in the communities of his beloved Sisters, now worldwide, who have promoted Saint Joseph among the children, the poor, the sick and the elderly in their care,” the community said in a statement. “Blessed Edmund cherished this Holy Patron who as Guardian to the Lord Jesus joyfully passed on the gifts of his heart and the work of his hands. Blessed Edmund likewise shared his own spiritual gifts, his literary and pedagogical talents and helping hands to those most in need.”
This year’s Consecration to Saint Joseph began with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, a conference on a theological introduction to Saint Joseph by Father Zbigniew Majcher, SDB, chaplain, followed by private adoration, a reflection, the Litany, and Rosary, with the sacrament of reconciliation available.
The Recollection ended with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament followed by Mass, which included a homily on the dignity of human work and the wonders and miracles of Saint Joseph.
Sisters from the educational, pastoral, healthcare ministries in Cherry Hill, Woodbridge and Atlantic City were present on the blessed day.
The Blessed Edmund Early Childhood Learning Center is located in Cherry Hill, NJ.
