A Gloucester Catholic High School employee resigned after allegedly transmitting images of students he had taken with his school-issued mobile phone.
In a letter sent home to parents Nov. 27, Principal John Colman made the school community aware of the matter.
The day before Thanksgiving, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office contacted Colman and notified him that the employee, a member of the school’s maintenance staff, was under investigation. The employee’s mobile phone was confiscated and his work area secured. That same day, the employee resigned.
The photographs are currently being examined to see if criminal charges are warranted. The parents of the students depicted in the photos will be notified.
As of press time Nov. 28, no charges had been filed.
“It is our conviction and our commitment that the security and well-being of our students — your sons and daughters — is our first and most important obligation,” Colman wrote in his letter to the school community.
“The Office of the Prosecutor moved quickly to root out this threat to the security of the children entrusted to our care,” he added.
