Msgr. Joseph DiMauro, pastor, will celebrate a healing Mass at Holy Angels Worship Center, Woodbury, at Nov. 12, 10 a.m.
The Mass, with the blessing of the relic of St. John of God, will mark an important date for The Hospitaller Order of St. John of God. This year the order celebrates the 125th anniversary of its founder, St. John of God, being proclaimed universal patron of the sick and hospitals and caregivers.
The religious order provides healthcare services to the sick and poor in 54 countries.
On June 22, 1886, Pope Leo XIII proclaimed St. John of God, and with him St. Camillus of Lellis, the patron saint of all hospitals and all the sick, wherever they may be. At the same time, Pope Leo XIII included both saints in the Litany of the Dying so the sick could call upon them in times of trial and distress.
“We, as Brothers of St. John of God, rejoice in this great celebration because it so closely unites us with those who suffer,” said Brother Thomas Osorio. “The charism of hospitality does not only begin with the brothers, but also is embedded in the life and contributions of our co-workers, volunteers and benefactors. Our service to the sick, while it changes out of the demand of the people who suffer, and the spirit in which we share the life of St. John of God with others continues to be relevant in our world and church today.”
In the Diocese of Camden, the order serves children and adults with special needs, as well as outreach programs to alleviate suffering and distress.
“Through its pastoral care, we assist men and women with food as well as provide visitation,” said Brother Thomas.
Anointing of the sick will be available on Nov 12.
Light refreshments will be served following Mass. For more information, please contact Bro. Thomas Osorio, O.H. at 856-848-4700, extension 1163.
