Following is an abridged version of the address given by valedictorian Laura McCann at the Camden Catholic High School commencement on June 4.
Good evening, Camden Catholic family. I would like to wish a warm welcome to all of our graduates and distinguished guests present here today, both on Shamrock Field and watching from home, at this celebration of the Class of 2021. …
Tonight, you will be witnessing a bittersweet moment in the lives of the 180 graduating seniors. The “God bless, Go Irish, You are dismissed,” that we hear on the intercom at the end of every school day will become reality.
One chapter of our lives will be closing, and we will all miss it dearly. However, the pages that lie ahead in our stories are waiting anxiously to be filled, and Camden Catholic High School has abundantly prepared us to start writing. Parents, I am sure that when dropping off your child at kindergarten for the first time, you felt both extremely nervous and excited for them. I can imagine that you are experiencing those same feelings tonight, 12 years later. However, I can assure you that this group of talented, compassionate, resilient young men and women will take on their adulthood with grace. In Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord says, “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
I cannot wait to see what great plans are in store for the bright futures of the class of 2021. … Therefore, at this special occasion tonight, I invite all of you to joyfully commemorate these successes of our class, honoring the great tradition of our school in developing another group of confident, intelligent, and faithful individuals.
