Brother Michael “Mickey” O’Neill McGrath will deliver a free gallery talk on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m., at the Rutgers-Camden University, Stedman Art Gallery, where his artwork is on display as part of the new exhibit, “Visions of Camden.” A reception will follow.
The art gallery exhibit “offers and invites insights into Camden’s past, its present and its prospects,” says Cyril Reade, director of the Rutgers-Camden Center for the arts and associate professor of art. It will include a wide array of media to present an impressionistic view of Camden’s history.
Glass slides, photographs, prints of Camden from various moments throughout its history, sketches by Brother Mickey, oil paintings by William M. Hoffman, Jr., maps, postcards, and posters will all be on display.
The exhibition is free of charge and open to the public, and runs from Jan. 17-March 1.
Brother Mickey, an Oblate of St. Francis de Sales, is an artist and author of 10 books, several of which have received awards from the Catholic Press Association. He is also a popular presenter at parishes, retreats, and conferences, speaking on the many connections between art and religious faith.
The Stedman Gallery is located in the Fine Arts Complex on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers-Camden campus. Admission is free to the gallery, which is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. The Stedman Gallery will be closed Monday, Jan. 21.
