Sister Mary Anina Schott, an Atlantic City native whose 50 years of teaching included time at St. John School in Collingswood, died peacefully Feb. 21 at McAuley Hall Health Care Center in Watchung. She was 97.
She was born and raised in Atlantic City and attended St. Nicholas Grammar School and Holy Spirit High School in Atlantic City. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1930.
In her 50 years in education, she taught at St. John School, Collingswood; and other New Jersey Catholic schools in Bernardsville, Red Bank and Perth Amboy. She was a librarian at St. Mary Academy, Lakewood, and St. Dominic School, Brick.
She retired to St. James Convent, Red Bank. She went to McAuley Hall Health Care Center in 2002.
She received a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a master of arts degree in English from Seton Hall University.
She is survived by a brother, Louis Schott of Maryland, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. today, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, at McAuley Hall Health Care Center. Burial will be in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
