For the third year in a row, the Diocese of Camden is participating in #iGiveCatholic, the Catholic Church’s Giving Day that coincides with the global day of generosity known as Giving Tuesday.
On Nov. 28, South Jersey’s faithful – and beyond – are encouraged to visit camden.igivecatholic.org and donate to the Diocese’s eight schools, 18 parishes and five ministries that are participating. In addition, there is an advanced giving phase that is underway until Nov. 27.
“To donate to #iGiveCatholic through Giving Tuesday really enables people to celebrate their Catholic faith and give to something they believe in – ministries or missions that are aligned with Catholic values or Catholic Social teaching,” said Stacy Napolitano, associate director of major gifts and stewardship for the diocesan Office of Development. “The #iGiveCatholic initiative truly empowers people to make a difference in their parishes and schools.”
Last year’s #iGiveCatholic raised $87,000 for participating parishes, schools and ministries in the Diocese.
Among the projects that benefitted from the 2022 campaign were the senior ministry at Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish in Cape May, and Church of the Incarnation in Mantua, which replaced its 21-year-old carpeting with porcelain flooring. In addition, eight participating schools received monies that went toward supplies, equipment and educational programs.
“It is my desire to build upon this success in 2023,” Bishop Dennis Sullivan said in a video promoting #iGiveCatholic.
Among the new ministries to take part this year is the Diocese’s Discipleship and Leadership Office, which is overseeing the Gifted Leadership Journey. The mission of this program is to further develop priests’ skillsets by helping clergy recognize their God-given gifts and talents in order to shepherd and serve through their own unique design.
“We wanted to participate so that we can do more for the priests from a leadership development standpoint,” said Donna Ottaviano-Britt, Secretary for Pastoral Outreach and director of the diocesan Office of Discipleship and Leadership. “The world is rapidly changing, and our shepherds are leading in very different times, when society is moving rapidly into secularization. It’s important to the Diocese to continue to invest in our priests and their 21st century leadership so that the Church can live her mission to evangelize the world.”
Founded in 2015, #iGiveCatholic is a nonprofit aiming to inspire faithful to come together as stewards and to “Give Back and Give Catholic.” Last year, over $18.5 million was raised.
