Three women who volunteer for Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Camden have been nominated for the 2014 Catholic Charities USA Volunteer of the Year Award. Known as “the Troops,” Patty Bivins, Kathryn Noble and Virginia Brannigan work at the Family and Community Services Center in Atlantic County, sorting through donations and managing operations at Gracie’s Thrift Store. They also greet homeless individuals who come to the facility, visit shut-ins, orchestrate the Christmas Toy Program and act as liaisons between families and nursing home staff. They are holding the New Jersey State Governor’s Jefferson Awards for Public Service which they received last year.
