South Jersey’s youth spent Aug. 10-16 helping local parishes and organizations with service projects, spending time in prayer, building friendships, and even serving at the annual feast of the Assumption Mass in Atlantic City as part of the annual Summer in the City experience.
First-time volunteer Nicole Clifford said the experience was nothing short of life-changing. “I stumbled upon a goldmine. I didn’t know what to expect, but I’ve been blown away.”
Among the service sites were The Neighborhood Center, Guadalupe Family Services and Sacred Heart Parish, all in Camden; and the Food Bank of South Jersey, Pennsauken.
At Sacred Heart, Father Vincent Guest, pastor, welcomed the youth by showing the teens a rosary and explaining how each bead becomes an act of love. “I thank the Lord for someone in my life, bead by bead. My parents, my brother, my sister, the homeless I meet in Camden, and tonight, each of you.”
